How we can help

We help disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) operating regionally or sub-regionally in England.

A disabled people’s organisation (DPO) is “an organisation that has a membership and managing board with a majority of disabled people, and whose objectives are the rights and equality of disabled people.”

We can help DPOs become more effective by improving their management and organisational systems.

We do this in three main ways:

Information and advice

A range of toolkits and ‘how to’ guides for DPOs will be available from the resources section of this site. These will include advice on management and governance, networking, business skills, social enterprise, involvement and inclusion. Limited resources are available at this stage, but more will be added shortly.

Signposting…

The resources section of this site will also provide links to other sites and organisations which can provide useful information and advice for DPOs

One-to-one support, coaching and training

In addition to the resources available through this site, we can provide further support and advice over the telephone or in person, and through a range of coaching and training opportunities. DPOs need to apply for this kind of help.

In the future we hope to be able to enable DPOs to share ideas and experiences through this site. If you would like to receive updates about the Disability LIB site please register now.

We would also like to hear ideas from DPOs about the kinds of information and advice they need, or other facilities they would like to see available on this site. Please contact us with your ideas.

Applying for further help

  1. Are you a disabled people’s organisation?
  2. Do you operate regionally or sub-regionally in England?
  3. Do you need further help or advice than is available on this site to make your organisation more effective?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to these three questions, then we may be able to help. Please register now or contact us.
